Thanks smackheadz(interesting name)I have found and removed the battery, so it is there, is there a procedure to follow to charge the thing or will it charge automatically when the laptop is plugged into mains, or is my battery knackered?

it should charge if you have the mains plugged in so if it isn't i would presume the battery is a gonna :o(

plug your laptop in with AC adapter (with the battery in) and double click the "AC Power" System Tray icon (bottom right hand corner), should tell you if your battery is charging and % charge level.

If you need a new battery try click here

Hope this helps.
