Hi, My laptop starts up the lights come on but nothing appears on the screen. It gets hot as usual underneath but the lights indicating caps lock and numbers lock remain on, they go off during the normal boot process. have tried a different psu but no joy. Any ideas?

Plug in an external monitor and use the key combination to change to the ex monitor and see if it shows.

if it does then its your screen /inverter / backlight

can you see a faint image on the screen if you shine a bright light on it?

Thanks for the reply. Don't have an external monitor so can't try that. It looks like it is not getting past the first phase of booting. As I said, the lights come on but nothing else happens. Usually they come on then go off after a couple of seconds.

It has not changed the boot start up has it.Can you get into the Bios to check or is it still the black screen.

Not got a TV that you can use as a monitor just in case it is the backlight that has gone.

You could try the old trick of removing the Battery and the power Jack and pressing the start button for 30 seconds then just plug the power jack back on and try and start without the battery.

That sometimes works with dead laptop so not sure about yours.Worth a try if nothing else is working.

No problems with loosing time or dates before you had this problem.

Maybe check that the air vents are clear of dust and fluff.

Air from a spray can or maybe even using a vacume may help.
