Laptop loses broadband connection

I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista, with built in wireless accessed through a Netgear 54Mbps router connected to a Virgin Media cable modem. The laptop sometimes loses connection, more often recently, and also occasionally fails to connect on startup. When this happens I am forced to turn all the network devices off, unplug them and reboot them all, followed by the same procedure on the laptop. I also have a second Toshiba laptop with similar spec running XP, which never encounters these problems. Has anybody experienced this and can they offer any advice?

Check Device Manager for In Networking Right click Properties check for list Smart shut Down or Power saving, Disable it, This should be under Wireless
