Laptop keeps disconnecting wi-fi

I have a problem with an Acer laptop that disconnects the wi-fi after 5 minutes inactivity. The only way to restore the wi-fi connection is to re-boot the laptop.

OS is XP Home.

if you are running on battery, go to device manager and turn off power saving in Network Adapters\Power Management

This is in both battery and mains. I've previously altered and re-checked the profiles so it doesn't turn stuff off.

Check your router settings. There may be a "Keep alive" function or "close after 5 mins of inactivity" setting.

The keep alive function is on.
