Laptop Hard Disk Clean-up

  SURVEY 09:58 08 Dec 07

I am about to give my old laptop to a friend. this runs on Windows 98 quite successfully and will be fine for my friend who wants to use it for internet access and some word processing. I have a lot of information on the laptop and would like to wipe as much as possible off.

I am assuming that I would be best off using the recovery disc that the laptop was supplied with (after taking an Acronis back-up just in case!). Can I save the Windows updates somewhere as I believe these are no longer available (and even if they were it would be a chore to update). If I can then where are they stored and how do I reinstate them?

Is there a simpler method of cleanig up the laptop? Maybe I could just delete files and Add/Remove surplus programs (I know the files would still be there!

All the 98 updates are here or click here. Use the recovery disk and that will be need to get too paranoid.
