Hi

I started ripping a CD of 23 tracks, and left the laptop to carry on with the job. However when I came back some time later it had paused the job, and only 7 tracks were done.

how do I stop the laptop sleeping or hibernating or whatever it was that it did!!??

thanks

Go to Control Panel/Power Options and set the Monitor and Hard Disk to power down at a later time.

As above but set the Drive to Never, that's what is doing it. Put monitor to turn off when you are not there after time you want it to turn off, to save power and monitor
