Just noticed that my laptop underneath at the top L/H corner and just wondered if this is normal.

Yes, they (nearly all) do. However, if the fan is running flat out all the time, it may be a symptom of a clogged heat sink. Many need dismantling to clear them properly.

There is one other thing to think about.

Laptops are incorrectly named.

If you use it on your Lap, you will very likely block the Air Ducts and cause overheating.

Put your hand near the vent, and feel how hot that might be. Its usually fairly warm, but should not be excessive. If its excessive, then there might be a problem, especially if the laptop is aged and been working on a fairly regular basis.

You can purchase laptop cooler's, usually a device where the laptop sits on with a couple of fans attached. Have a look on Ebay or Amazon for said devices.

I use one of those hard top trays with an attached cushion underneath when using a laptop in that mode.

Install "Core Temperature". It is free and will give you the actual temp of your CPU cores. Only when we know the actual temp can we say if it is toom high or not.

It might be 'normal' for that make and model of Notebook. Can't do a search though as you haven't given us those details.
