My laptop keeps crashing / freezing, causing the following error; I re-boot & it seems to work ok until I power down & the whole cycle starts again. I have tried reloading XP with my restore disk, but same thing. Any idea?

Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware
didn't respond within the timeout period. This may
indicate an error in the EC hardware or firmware, or
possibly a poorly designed BIOS which accesses the EC
in an unsafe manner. The EC driver will retry the
failed transaction if possible.

Something to do with ZoneAlarm perhaps? Do you have it installed / recently removed?

Yes, I do have Zone alarm - I'll try uninstalling it
I'll let you know how it goes
Thanks
