Laptop to external monitor...resolutions?

  andy@ 13:29 19 Oct 09

If the external monitor is 1920x1080, and laptop is 1440x900 (native) powered by a ATi X1400 card, will I get full 1920x res, or will there be a black border, or fuzzy display, if I connect (with DVI socket)?

“Will there be a black border”

The display picture will be stretched to fit the screen size

ambra - OK, I was hoping that the laptop graphics card would give an external 1920 resolution, irrespective of the set resolution of the laptop display.

I have an Acer laptop with a 1280*800 internal screen and I use it with a 1920*1080 external screen. The external screen defaults to it's maximum 1920*1080 resolution when I chose it as the default screen and connect using a standard monitor cable. The laptop has even higher resolutions available from it's grsphics chip set if I had a higher resolution external monitor.

dms - thanks, will check this tonight; hopefully I don't need the monitor attached to see this info.
