Laptop died, msvcrt not present, sfc in dos?

  Epirb406 22:07 22 Dec 03

Dell laptop, not booting because error message, msvcrt.dll not present.

Would like to run sfc but can't as when booted with floppy am told sfc can't run in dos.

Would reinstall but don't know how, win 98 files on hard drive and floppy and CD rom are interchangable, ie cd not recognised as not present when booting.

Any ideas people?

cheers, epirb.

when in dos type scanreg/fix

this should fix the registry

can you get into safe mode, to do this tap the F5 key or the F8 key and click on safe mode

Will let you know progress.

No, can't get in to safe mode.

If this doesn't work and I download the .dll, what do I do with it?

Thanks, Epirb.

What to do with a dll...

Long time since I had 98 - put in in C:\Windows, C:\Windows\System and C:\Windows\System32

Having multiple copies will do no harm.

ran scanreg/fix, rebooted

now have message that explorer won't load, I will have to reinstall indows 98. Click OK and get message msvcrt.dll not found.

OK VoG, remind me of the dos file copy commands, now that really was a long time ago!

Cheers, Epirb.
