Laptop crashes

I have aSamsung R509 laptop. From time to time it closes down without warning. It will go for days without a problem and then it will close down several times in a few hours. There is no warning, it just switches off. It starts up OK afterwards. I only use it for the internet and e-mails and storing a few photos.
Any ideas?

Always helpful to mention operating system when posting.
On the assumption that you are using XP the next time your laptop crashes and boots again follow these instructions click here and post details here.

Well looking at the Event Viewer the major problems, shown as Error are "Service control manager eventlog provider - ID 7000" and "WMI - ID10". I haven't a clue what these mean.
Otherwise there are dozens of warnings, either kernel-processor power, or servicing.
Any ideas?
