laptop charging problem

Hello all, my laptop, a HP one, wont charge due to the fact that the socket the adaptor plugs into, the little metal strip in the laptop connector came out! I tried to solder it back on but it still wont charge.
Is there some other way of charging it up? Would using a usb to usb with a pc work for instance, like you can do with your mobile, etc?
Thanks for any help with this!

It needs stripping down, and the socket doing properly

You can get standalone chargers that will charge the battery out of the laptop. I wonder which would be cheaper?
