Laptop as in car dvd

I was considering an 8" portable dvd player for in car use by the kids on a long journey but I wonder whether a laptop at £500 is better value? Does anyone know how easy it is to run a laptop from a ciggy socket? Any other drawbacks to my plan?

you can run it through a inverter as i do. a 150watt should do. mine is a 300

If you got one with decent battery life you may be able to watch a DVD by running off the battery without the need to plug it in to the ciggy socket or otherwise. You would have to shop around to get one with a budget of £500 though.

Just seen a post elsewhere, PC World are selling an Advent 7063M Intel banias Pentium M 1.5 GHZ processsor for £499.97 (inc VAT) This has up to 4 hours battery life.

Mine will play a whole DVD but if it is a very long journey you might want to play more than 1. Mine is HP Pavilion ZV5000 series but was not under £500
