[lack of ] internet connection

Often when I try to sign into hotmail I get the message- your web browser options are currently set to disable cookies- and i can't get into my e-mails. However there is never anything different to the previous time that I used hotmail which worked OK and when checking in the 'internet section' of my computer settings all my options are set to enable cookies.
How can I stop this happening? thanks c benbow

How do I check what version? It was set up about 3 years ago and hasn't been amended since!
