KT7 chipset and USB port conflicting

I have a problem with my adsl modem which causes the USB ports to loose power at apparently random intervals. The symptoms would be that the Broadband ADSL will usually work fine for a short time and then the modem would just switch itself off. After a reboot of the computer it will be OK again for a few minutes.

I have been told that there is a problem with the KT7 chipset in that it conflicts with the USB port, does anyone know how i can overcome this?

I've got a D-Link DSL-200 USB modem and im using Win98SE.

I have checked the D-Link for updated drivers but nothing is available.
