Keyboard/Mouse and sleep mode

I have:
Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 and
Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0A

With either piece of hardware, if I have the option in control panel set to "Allow this device to wake up the computer" checked, my PC won't go into sleep mode. If unchecked in both devices, then sleep is OK, but I have to reach down to the PC to wake it (not serious problem but annoying enough).

I am now using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, but previously had the problem with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. However, I have in the past been able to wake my PC using the keyboard, but can't remember the event that stopped it working.

Any suggestions?

It has been suggested I use the command "Powercfg / lastwake" to identify the problem. However when I run this command, a window appears for a fraction of a second then closes. How do I view the results?
