My almost extinct dinosaur of a desktop (meteorite arriving imminently)has developed a keyboard problem. Some keys no longer produce the correct symbol. This only seems to be for shift functions.
I run ME for my sins

Help please so that I can still use it whilst I await my shiny new system or more precisly the funds required to buy one

Have you been to Device Manager>Keyboard>Properties and checked that it is working correctly?

There is a troubleshooter (at least in XP); also check that the Regional Settings is set for UK.

If you have another keyboard driver rather than standard MS you may need to check out this from Control Panel>Keyboard>Properties>Hardware tab.

Sounds like your Regional Settings for the keyboard.

Look in Settings > Control Panel > Keyboard > Input Locales tab
