Keyboard Problem

To get round an intermittent keyboard PS/2 input port, I bought a (cheap) USB keyboard (no manufacturers name visible).

It works ok except when left inactive for some time ( certainly greater than an hour - probably longer) certain keys cause the adjacent key character to appear as well. When this happens,

1 appears as 12
2 appears as 12
q appears as qw
w appears as qw

similarly for the character pairs as and zx. As far as I can tell, no other pairs of characters are affected.

The problem can be fixed on each occasion this has happened so far by unplugging & re-plugging the keyboard or by a system power restart.

My guess is that it is the keyboard - but any other suggestions?
