Keyboard Printing Error

My son's laptop started printing different characters from those pressed. As an example, pressing key m printed o, depressing key o printed -
Language & Keyboard settings appear OK. The fault was corrected by System Restore but am wondering if anyone has any idea as to why this occurred in the first place so that we can prevent it happening in the future.

You need to press the fn key and another one to return to the keyboard (usually the scroll lock or numlock)

You seem to have got it into the numbers on the keys...
