Keyboard Numbers Lock?

  watchful 19:57 18 Aug 03

Probably a daft question but what is the function of this key and should it be lit up when you are switched on?
I know how to turn it off but can't say I've noticed whether it is always lit up or not or why.

This is normally set in the BIOS, so that the number pad is set as a default.

I can set it to be turned on or off when booting in my BIOS. I prefer it on as I use the number pad a lot when using Excel. If it's off then the functions printed on each key will work instead (eg: pressing the 9 will move the page up on your screen etc.)

Example try using the numbers on the right of the keyboard with it switched of then try with it switched on. Setting in BIOS it used mainly as above for spread sheet work like using a calc

Ah, I see now. I hardly ever use the keypad on the right so I can turn it off then.

Thank you all for your quick responses.
