Keyboard delay

Recently, while using my PC keyboard, I notice that the first letter pressed won't appear on screen until I tap the key once again.

It almost seems that I have to 'wake up' the keyboard first by pressing any key and then all is well.

However, it's getting a bit frustrating when characters are missing or commands don't work because of this annoying delay.

The keyboard is plugged directly into the PC via USB and it's never done this before.

Windows XP SP2

Any advice to stop this happening would be appreciated.

I have had a similar problem myself. Have you tried updating the mouse drivers and keyboard drivers?

No I haven't but it's a MicroSoft product so I'll check now. Thanks, I'll see if it fixes the problem.

I'm using the latest version, apparently, so all OK there.

Any other help welcomed.

No viruses or spyware, this is an odd one.

If it's a wireless keyboard do the batteries need changing?

You might also have altered the channel being used inadvertently.

As I said, it is wired directly to the PC via a USB cable.

It seems to 'time out'. If I don't touch the keyboard for a few minutes, that's when the problem occurs.

If I don't leave it too long between typing, it works fine.

Try altering the repeat rates from the keyboard's Properties (Start>Settings.Control Panel>keyboard)

Thanks Stuartli but the problem still exists even after altering speeds etc..

I'll now try completely uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it to see if the driver is corrupted in any way.
