keyboard changing positions

Using windows xp normal keyboard until recently, now it has repoitioned some of the keys, e.g. the @ sign is now above nmueral 2, what can have cuased this, please keep explanations simple, I,m not senile, but at 77 plus, am a little slow on the uptake, thanks.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Regional and Language Settings.

Make sure Keyboard is set to British.

Your keyboard is set to English US (installed by default MS is an American company)

You should have installed the English UK keyboard when windows is first installed. It can still be changed see Startli post above.

Sometimes hitting a certain combination of keys (can't rember which) changes it from one to the other.
