KERNEL32DLL error

When opening Internet Explorer
(version 6.0.2800.1106)from within an email message, I quite often get the following message "Explorer has caused an error in KERNEL32DLL. Explorer will now close."

When I press the OK button, Explorer completely closes down and several of my Task Bar icons disappear.

Can anybody tell me what this is, and can it be eliminated ?

Regards
