i have checked in my downloads folder in windows and java is reporting that it is damaged which could be the reason of all my problems i have deleted it does anybody know how i install it again i am running xp thanks

JVM on XP,

I assume your talking about Microsoft JVM rather that the Sun Java? They are supposed to do similar things but you may run into compatibilty issues (I do). Just some info for you;

A clean install of XP will NOT give you Microsoft JVM.
An upgrade to XP will retain & upgrade your current Microsoft JVM.
Installing SP1 (no longer available from Microsoft) to XP will give you Microsoft JVM.
Installing SP1a to XP will NOT give you Microsoft JVM.

The inclusion/exclusion is due to lawsuits from Sun

You best bet is to install SP1 (not 1a) which I've seen on ebay for £1 or so.
