Jumper settings for old HD now slave

  lindy 17:18 02 Jul 03

Can anyone help. I have a Maxtor HD [master] and a Western Digital [slave]. I have put the jumper settings as it says on the website for each of the companies - but my computer still doesn't recognise the Western Digital drive which is the slave.

Is there perhaps a compatibility problem?

Remove the cable for your cd, use that cable to connect the 2nd drive, start puter and read what it says for the 2nd ide channel, master or slave.

If master change the jumper and restart until it says secondary slave, then disconnect, replace cd rom and connect 2nd drive to primary ide cable.
