just had a look inside my pc to check something, i looked at the jumper setting on my maxtor 80gb hdd and found that it was set to something called cable select,(second set of pins from left), but on maxtors website it should be set on the left pins,my pc is working fine,is it ok to leave it as it is? its a new machine, im with ntl bb cable, thanks, joel.

HDDs supplied to OEMs often have jumpers set to cable-select. That enables the OEMs to mount any of their HDDs as either masters or slaves, either while building a new PC, or to mount as a slave to another PC to test or do other support work.

Just for info; leave it as is, as Woodchip says.
