JS-AJAX getElementById doesn't always update page

Hi,
check this example: click here

Using Javascript and PHP, I managed to make the javascript continually send a request to the php file (in this example, for current time). I checked that the javascript works and the method is called every second. However, I am only able to see the data of the page updated in Firefox 1.5. In Opera 9.2 and Internet Explorer 6, they both don't update, even when I try to force it by reloading the page.

How can I make this work in the other two browsers? Internet Explorer is particularly important due to its popularity.

click here
for the javascript
The php file just echo's date();

Thank you,

Charence
