"Java updates ready for download"

I regularly get this popup to the point of irritation!
When I click the baloon, it invariably tells me my installation is already up to date. Can it be stopped without the possibility of missing genuine updates?
Similarly, I am getting fed up with iTunes' total lack of manners, in that it elbows its way to the front, regardless of what you happen to be doing at the time, to announce yet more updates!
Can I teach it to put up its hand, and wait for attention!!?

I don't know about iTunes. I don't use it

Java has a tick box option, under Update, to 'Check for Updates Automatically'.

Untick it.

Didn't know about that!
I've taken the middle road for the time being, and plumped for a monthly check!
See if that is less irritating
I respect your wisdom re iTunes!!
