Since installing Java I have noticed that in the 'Add or Remove Programs' I have 3 updates for J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 - update 9, 10 & 11, each being approx. 145MB. I also have the latest Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 and this is 159MB. These updates total 595MB. Are all these updates necessary and do I really need them? I read this thread, with has the same question click here and noticed that his file sizes are significantly smaller than mine.

You only need Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 - it's 134MB in my case.

If necessary, uninstall all Java items from Add/Remove Programs and reinstall Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 after a reboot.

Could I not just uninstall all Java items except the R E 6 update 1 or would that cause problems?

After each automatic update, I just uninstall (via Add/Remove Programs) the previous version. Seems to work fine.

Currently on Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1. Up until this version they'd all been J2SE version 5.0.

If they are listed separately, yes.

As I only have SE RE 6 Update 1 installed now, i can't remember exactly if they were listed separately, although I'm pretty sure they were.

Thanks for that. I'll go ahead and delete the J2SE's and reclaim some memory. Cheers.
