Thanks for that - I picked it up a few days ago.

One thing I noticed with Java updates is that they leave the old versions lying around. If one goes into Add/Remove Programs they are visible and the old ones can be safely removed (at least I've not had any problems).

stuartli
saw this earlier, any idea why version number dropped from version 6 back down to ver 5?

  Stuartli 17:01 25 Feb 07

Two slightly different things as far as I'm aware - one is J2SE Runtime Environment and the other Java (TM) SE RE.

However, I'm not sure why the version number should seem to move backwards unless it's a listing error between the two.

The latest version of Java is Java Runtime Environment Version 6.

Download it from: click here
(Click on the download for Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6)

You do need to uninstall the old version(s).

Thanks stuartli and beynac. Downloaded v6 from beynac's link and nearly got caught out again to download Google desktop and toolbar. :)

"beynac

I know. That's why I was surprised that you posted saying that v5 update 11 was available. Sun Java and FileHippo presumably need to get their act together.
