Java Browser problem

I have designed a Web Site which I have got on floppy disks, and there is six pages on the Web design. I have got some pictures on them which are worked with applets, there is movement on the photographs. This works OK on my Windows 98 computer, but I have just got a new computer which has Windows XP Home on it, and the photographs which are controlled by the applets are not working. I don't even get the picture, I get a message saying: Sorry your Browser does not support Java.
Can anybody help me with this. I have installed the Java Virtual Machine (msjavx86.exe) and there seem to be a lot of java files on the computer. Is it because I have got XP Home, if so is there anything I can do?
