J2SE download.. strange happenings

This afternoon I had to install the above in order to run a series of speed tests at the behest of TalkTalk.
I was a bit concerned that it placed two identical icons in my system tray.
I'm still unable to run the test as speedtest site found unexpected errors with my connection!!
This evening I was notified of an update to Java (So soon!)
After installation and verification, I now find that the down arrow at the right of the address bar no longer presents a dropdown list, and now there is no Icon for Java in the sys.tray!!!!
Anyone have experience of this?

Download latest; click here
Close all browsers,go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, uninstall all instances of Java, reboot, install file downloaded from the link above.

brundle,
So you too think it's odd?

  six-h 19:17 03 May 07

brundle,
Just cleared it out! and visited your link.
What I had was Version 5.0 update 7, plus another update that I didn't note down.
your link offers: -
Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.1
isn't that different to what I was told to download by the speedtest site?
Numerically it seems to be older ??

Think I've found the problem, it appears that Java installation must have cleared the dropdown listings.
Any answer to my above query re- latest Java download?

Sorry, The above revelation refers to the missing addressbar drop down list!

pac73,
But is this not an earlier version?
Do you follow my logic, or am I being obtuse??
