iTunes won't let PC shutdown

  Ico 08:16 24 Jul 05

I have just installed iTunes for an ipod shuffle. Now whenever I go to shutdown my pc it comes up with a "Program not responding " window for iTunes. Clicking "end now" does the job; but this window comes up every time I shutdown, whether I've opened iTunes or not.Ran virus and spyware checks to no avail. My computer is WinXP SP2.
Also, theres no uninstall option for iTunes - how do I go about safely uninstalling it? Use the uninstall option in Control PAnel?
