iTunes rips audiobooks and stores them as Music

If ever I rip and audiobook from CD using iTunes, it stores it in the Music directory of iTunes, and not the Audiobook directory. An initial search on the Internet suggests this is because iTunes rips it as a .m4a file when it needs to be a .m4b file. Any suggestions on how to change the file type, or any other solutions to this problem?
