Is it wise to go Athlon 64?

I'm looking into buying a laptop as a desktop replacement with raw power over portability but can't decide whether to go for a pentium 4 or an athlon 64.

I thought i would just say that before anyone gets mad with me ( phew )

I only want to know if the athlon is a wiser choice ,due to the fact that i hear theres a 64 bit operating system on the way and i thought this would keep the athlon up to date longer. I can't afford to upgrade/replace my computer very often so need something which will last a long time.

Is this the right way forward?

Hi, well of course it is a matter of personal taste, but for all it is worth, I would opt for the Athlon.
