It's not possible. You need a DVD writer for that.

I have a dvd writer I need to know what software will let me
1. copy a dvd
2. put the films i already have on disc in avi and xvid format on to dvd to play in a dvd player
3. and it needs to be pretty simple and quick

Nero will do it, I've seen it done and I believe Easy Cd creator will do it as well although I'm unsure about the formats you are using, you may need to convert them. Regarding the quick part, well, I'm sure someone who writes dvds will tell you more.

I've just noticed your other thread, the files you're talking about are prerecorded films I believe. If this is what you are talking about recording then I believe apart from the legality aspect of this you will probably be unable to do it with either of these programs as the disks will be copy protected.

ECDC & DVD6 will do this, unless of course they have copyright protection. I'm not sure about the formats xvid & AVI. ECDC6 will read an unprotected DVD and write it to DVD it will also create VCD as well as music & data. £45 from Argos.
Copying an unprotected DVD is very, very, simple.
