Is it okay to run some programs WHILE online?

Hi. I have just updated Ad-Aware SE as pointed out by Forum member 'Lionheart' in his recent post today.
After downloading the updates to Ad-Aware SE, SpyBot, a2 Trojan scanner & my McAfee anti-virus program I always run them while connected to the internet.

Is this the WRONG thing to do or does it not matter? i.e. Should you run these programs while NOT online?

p.s I run these programs after an update to save the hassle of logging off, running the program(s) and then logging back on again.
Lazy I know!

im always connected so always run these without unplugging my modem. my guess is its ok and if you need to close browser windows etc the program normally tells you so.

Thanks. So I will continue to do what I have ALWAYS been doing then!
Just curious as me being 'lazy' might cause registry problems in the future caused by running applications WHILE online. Resolved.
