Have a PC that was shut down for several months. Tried starting it last weekend but there was no signal to the monitor and it seems that the lights in from of CPU was on but there isn't the usual sound you hear when PC is starting up. Is it the hard disk that makes the sound whenever you switch on PC and if there's no sound then the hard disk is dead ? Thanks in advance.

the sound which you hear is probally the cpu fan. First check that the cpu fan is spinning, check video card hasnt been knocked out of its slot and check the cable. Then enter the cmos and make sure it is detecting the hard drive. if so reboot and it should work
