Issue with Windows XP skins and itunes/ipod

I'm one of those people who likes to customize their XP sessions. The latest i've tried is pack-vista-inspirat-2-1.0 and a few months ago was a similar app to make xp look like mac osx (can't remeber what it was called).
When the skin is applied, itunes and ipod always give an error along the lines of:
# The iPod "Customer's iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50)"
# "The disk could not be read from or written to"
# "The iPod "Customer's iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)
This is resolved by uninstalling the theme. I get no issues with something like VistaVG which get copied into C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes as itunes works ok with it.
Is there a way for itunes to co-exist with these theme applications? Is Apple trying to tie down my PC so the only way i can "pimp" it is to by a mac and sync the ipods there??!
Any advice would be appreciated, if only to make my XP session a bit more "interesting"!
