I have both XP home and Media centre (different machines)
My problem is where can I find the sound card settings in order to use old win 95 progs that were originally DOS.
Have tried compatability mode but with no success so DOS seems the way to go

I dont think there is a direct path open any more.
DOS is not recognised by XP in any version.

Which way have you gone -
Installed XP on an oldish computer,
or
Re-used an old sound card in a new computer?

XP ought to be quite clever in finding suitable drivers, though if integrated, the motherboard's own drivers ought to be installed.

It may be loss of old faithful twiddles you miss, but if you explore to see what is already there you may be able to find free downloads that substitute quite well in the missing areas.

To run old DOS programs try DOSBox DOS Emulator click here

To look for sound sttings IRQ right click the sound card in device manager and select properties look through the properties tabs to find all the settings.

Diemmess they are modern macines with up to date sound cards-- thats why compatability does not recognise them

Fruit Bat---- will try Dos box as have heard of it before
However under xp it appears that the sound settings are not easily found as we used to do in Win 95
Have a peep yourself if you are on XP and please let me know if you find anything

Ok, the sound card is working properly, so what facilities do you miss?
