IRQ conflict - how to resolve plse?

5 yr old Windows XP home SP2 PC, ASUS a7v133 MoBo.
2 IDE HDs connected to Promise controller instead of normal IDE channels which are used for optical drives.

Looking to replace existing FireWire PCI card with a USB2-FireWire combo card.
Device Manager showed the original FireWire card as inoperative.

When I replaced the FireWire with the USB2-FireWire combo card, I got a BIOS start-up error message;
"PCI card in Slot 2 shares IRQ with Promise IDE Controller.
F1 to continue."

When I moved it to another PCI slot instead, BIOS started up without any problems and XP SP2 HdWare Wizard detected the card and auto installed required drivers.
Device Manager shows the FireWire network controller as inoperative. Downloaded a later InnoVision EIO driver (Jan 2004) and installed, but no improvement.

I shall need the original FireWire PCI slot for an Ethernet PCI card.
How do I resolve the IRQ conflict, which will probably reappear when I try to install that?

I doubt if it's down to the defective FireWire component in the combo card, as its fine in another PCI slot.

Many thanks in anticipation of any help and suggestions.

many thanks Fruit Bat /\0/Will have a more thorough browse through of that.
Looks like I ought to check that Auto IRQ assignment is set in the BIOS on 1st reading.
