I've had this problem with my ipod a few times if you mean it freezes.

Just let the bat run down and charge again if all else fails!

Inconvenient but it works for my ipod.

the same has happened to my friend, only option he had left is to do what thatslife has told oyu to do, which is letting battery run down then recharging it.

Surely if your Ipod does not turn off properly there is something wrong with it to make do with just letting the battery run down is dull to say the least.

"I absolutely love my ipod. I use it in the car and at work all the
time and have never had a problem with it until yesterday. It won't
play any of my songs and won't turn off. The only way I can get it to
turn off is to hold down the menu and play button and reset it, then
turn it off quickly while it seems to be functioning normally. I
highly recommend to all of you that are having problems to take your
ipod to the Apple store you bought it at or call their customer
service department and tell them the problems. I took mine to the
local Apple store and they set me up with a new one. No receipts or
boxes needed. Very nice and knowledgable people. They need to know the
problems so they can work on fixing them."
