iPod caused laptop to crash - now won't turn on

My laptop crashed last week and will no longer turn on. I think it's related to my iPod. The iPod caused a few crashes whilst trying to charge it on the laptop last week but before, it would always restart. Now it won't, whether I have the power supply in or out. The laptop is not under warranty, so I'm not covered in any way. The laptop showed no problems before using the iPod last week. Any suggestions?

this might work!
disconnect mains power then remove the battery, now with both power supplies removed press and hold down the button used to turn laptop on (on/off switch) for 30 seconds.
reconnect battery or power supply and it might just boot.
