IP Address Conflict

Every now and again I get a Windows-System Error message saying "There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network" It happens on both computers.
I have two computers(XP Home SP2 on each) linked wirelessly by a Netgear DG834G v2 ADS LModem Router. If I just click on the "X" the message goes away until the next time. So far it is just a nuisance but I'm wondering how to stop it happening at all. Any ideas?

Is the mac address enabled on both machines?

Not sure what that means, I'm afraid.

Go into the router homepage and check on both machines that the mac address is either enabled or disabled on both machines and if yes,are the addresses the same?
