Could somebody send a reply to this post, even its only to say they can't help or cant be bothered. I posted a thread 'no sound' but got no replys and i realise it might be stupid question, but i tried absolute beginners and no reply there either. here is my post again.

I am running an old packard bell with a built in sound card but recently the sound has stopped working. i cannot pinpoint when this happened so i dont know if triggered it, but when i play an audio cd an error message appears. CANNOT OPEN OUTPUT AUDIO DEVICE.
Anybody any ideas. Thanks

Try reloading the audio driver software.

Read your absolute beginners thread but you needed to give more info eg What operating system? Do system sounds work or is it just audio cd?

Things to check:
Open volume control and check that nothing is muted.

Control Panel - Sounds - check all settings.

Do you get sound with dxdiag?

Device manager check that your sound is ok.
