Invisible external HDD

I have a 1tb LaCie external HDD that I use for regular backups. It has worked with my Vista PC via eSATA into the motherboard for two years. For no apparent reason the external has now become invisible on windows explorer and no longer listed as a resource for the Paragon backup image software. It is listed by the BIOS on start up and in device manager as a disk. I checked the driver as up to date. I tried different USB external HDD on the PC and the same happened. The PC will mount memory sticks ok I tried the LaCie on my laptop and it showed up ok. Any solutions?

Start Search diskmgmt.msc to see if it shows there (with drive letters). Right click and change letter if a partition needs one.

Sometimes USB ports can be locked by old connections.

USB Deview can clear them. But I don't know if it works with eSATA/combo ports.

Thanks robinoflexley. Sadly, still no sign on diskmgt.msc device manager or in Windows explorer of the HDD either via eSATA or the USB HDD
