comp spec XP2200 1gb DDr2100 memory AS Rock mobo MSI 4800 graphics and XP Home OS.
When I start up I get the usual splash screen then when that goes off I get a screen that says
Invalid boot INI file
Boot from C:/windows/
Then it goes into the windows start up screen as normal,
Has anyone got any thoughts on what might have caused this and how to cure it.

I had the same problem on 03.12.2003 if you type in a search for 'Boot.ini problem it should take you to my posting and the solutions that were given to me.

They worked and no more problem with pc.

Have just been looking at that thread and found it.[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect.
Does it look like I should change anything as the file did not have a bak extension
