internet speed

i have aol gold using a bt voyager 2100 router which works but i think the speed is slow and when i have tested it it says that i am only on average 160k to 400k and that i should be 2000k.when i use the aol modem which you get i have tried the speed test and it does run at 2000k. why wont it run at this using the voyager router which i need to use cause i have more than one computer. any help please

Is the original modem a USB device? If it is, and you are now connecting to your PC via Ethernet, I'd initially suspect the Ethernet cable. Can you try another?

yes its a usb device but i also have a wireless laptop and the speed is still slow on that.i will try another ethernet cable though. any other ideas
