Internet pages locking.

Locked

When I access any web page, the page 'locks' just before it is fully loaded and I cannot do anything other than wait. (Hve tried my modem in a different slot and also tried another modem but still no joy. Is it my ISP (they think its me)or is it my settings? Nothing has changed since before it started. I'm still on dial-up as I don't want to get broadband until I move house.
Also, I'm on Win 98.

I have just tried repairing IE6 but still the same!

Have you tried restoring the registery?

I had a similar problem recently and found that for some inexplicable reason some registry files were missing or corrupt. I've got Windows ME but I have disabled System Restore as I have found it totaly useless. I use a little programme called Ultra WinCleaner 2000 which has saved my life on several occasions.

repair the registry 1st

go to start>shutdown>restart in ms-dos

when in dos type

scanreg/fix

When you say "locks before fully loaded" - do you mean the IE window is drawn, but then the menu's, icon bar and address bar stay blank ?

If so , there a are a number of MS-KB articles on the subject, but the one that cured it for me was to follow the instructions in click here;EN-US;Q816405

Post back if no good, I have "English" version (less technical) but would need to e-mail it to you (4 pages).

If you've got 100's of temp int files dump them as this can clog things up.

Cheers all but still no good!
Daba, I tried the click here part of your response but it took me no-where.

To get Dabas link to work try this.

1) Click the Click here - new window opens with error

2) Paste the ;EN-US;Q816405 bit on the end of the link in the new windows.

3) Hit Go and the page will load.

This forum breaks up MS links for some reason...

  Dave1973 18:47 05 Aug 03

I tried with the link and used the http 1.1 method and atill no joy.
The regedit method is above me!
Maybe a trip to the PC doctor!

Try reverting to earlier v of ie: v 5.5 is best with 98.
