Internet and OE connections

When I log on to Internet or Outlook Express I get a message Invalid user name or password and yet if I then try to connect with the other ie Internet if I tried OE or OE if I tried Internet it will connect and then I can go back to what I originally wanted. I'm using XP home and IE6 and OE6 - any thoughts?
I recently updated Windows Messanger service will this affect it and what exactly does WM do?

Why not create a shortcut to the DUN connection on your desktop; then use this shortcut to connect and after that open the internet explorer or Outlook express program.

(I really hope I understand your problem...)

How would I create the shortcut please?

Open dial up networking, right click on the relevant connection and choose "create shortcut".

Or simply drag and drop onto the desktop.

IE and OE interact with configuration - perhaps you haven't enabled one or the other as your Default browser or e-mail program.
